What is a video testimonial?

A video testimonial is a short recorded interview in which a real customer explains, in their own words, the problem they had, why they chose a business and what changed afterwards. It works because the viewer hears it from someone like them rather than from the company. The usual form is a seated interview filmed with clean sound, cut into one full version for the website and a few short clips for social media.

It is not an ad read from a script, and it is not a screenshot of a review. The customer answers open questions and the editor builds the story from those answers, so nothing in it is written for them. That is also why it needs the customer's signed permission to publish their face, name and words before anything goes live.

02

What does a testimonial video script look like?

A testimonial script is a plan for the interview and the edit, not lines for the customer to read. Write the questions, their order and a target length for each answer, and leave the words to the customer. Ask them to repeat the question inside each answer ("Before we worked with them, we…") so every clip stands alone without the interviewer's voice, and leave a second of silence after each answer so the editor has a clean cut. Each answer can then become its own vertical clip for Reels or Shorts.

For a website version of one to two minutes, this order cuts cleanly:

  • Who they are (about 10 seconds): "Tell us your name, your business and what you do."
  • Before (20 to 30 seconds): "What was going on before you started working with [business]?"
  • The doubt (15 to 20 seconds): "What almost stopped you from going ahead?"
  • The decision (15 to 20 seconds): "What made you decide, and what did you notice first?"
  • After (20 to 30 seconds): "What is different now?" Numbers only if the customer has them.
  • The recommendation (about 10 seconds): "Who would you tell to do the same, and what would you tell them?"

How much does a customer testimonial video cost in Miami?

If the interview is already recorded, the editing is priced on the calculator's corporate band: $725–$1,450 per project, an editing-led freelancer range with a 10% introductory discount, checked against a published market of $500–$2,500. If it still has to be filmed, the half-day on-location add-on is $400–$775 on the same basis, or the Local Presence package starts from $800 per production day, covering pre-production, capture and editing.

These are budgeting starting points, not a quote. The price moves with how many customers are interviewed, how many short cut-downs are needed for social, and whether captions or a second language are part of the delivery. Full-crew Miami production companies quote on a different model, with a larger crew on set, so their ranges are not directly comparable.

04

What questions should a testimonial interview ask?

Five, asked in the order the story happened. What was the situation before you started working with the business? What almost stopped you from going ahead? What was the moment you decided, and why? What changed afterwards, in numbers if the customer has them and in plain words if not? And who would you tell to do the same?

The order matters because a testimonial is cut as a short before-and-after, and answers recorded in sequence fall into that shape with fewer jumps. Ask each question open-ended and ask the customer to answer in a full sentence that repeats the question, so the clip makes sense without your voice in it. Never hand the customer a script to read: a recited line sounds recited.

05

How long should a video testimonial be?

Plan two lengths from the same interview. The full version, usually one to three minutes, belongs on the website or a sales page, where the viewer chose to watch. The short versions, one answer each, go to Reels, TikTok and Shorts, where the first seconds decide whether anyone stays.

Planning both before the shoot changes the questions: each answer has to stand alone, so the customer should name the business and the problem inside the sentence. On the calculator, short social cuts are priced like Starter, from $100 per video, or $85 a week for 1 video and $160 a week for 2 videos. List them in the brief so the quote covers them from the start instead of after the main cut is approved.

06

What should you send before a testimonial is filmed or edited?

For an edit only: the original camera files, the separately recorded audio if a lavalier or recorder was used, the customer's name and title spelled correctly, the logo as a vector file, and the customer's signed permission to publish their face and words. For a shoot as well: the location, a quiet room, and a time slot long enough to set up light and sound before the customer arrives.

Sound decides a testimonial more than picture does; a soft image is forgiven before an echo is. For the agency 300 Bees, Esteban filmed social videos at a Miami dental clinic on location, recording video and sound, then edited and delivered them (Healthy Smile Miami). It is not a testimonial, but it is the published example of the same on-location conditions.
